It’s that time of the year again when I can’t contain my excitement about a new technology! This year, my candidate of choice is llms. I’ve been captivated by the incredible possibilities offered by this emerging technology, and I was eager to find a practical application for it. While exploring the options, langchain caught my attention, despite its slightly opinionated and convoluted nature.

To gain a deeper understanding, I decided to get my hands dirty and contribute to langchain by opening a few pull requests (PRs). Among them, there is one specific PR that I would like to discuss: https://lnkd.in/exsJmJzV. In the grand scheme of things, this particular PR may seem inconsequential as it involves a mere update to the MakeFile. However, I have a confession to make: I have zero experience with make.

Although I have a basic understanding of how it functions, I’ve always wanted to delve deeper and truly learn it. I don’t think I need to anymore. Through this process, I’ve gained valuable insights into effectively prompting chatgpt and have conducted various experiments. But I learned almost zero make. I just didn’t have to.

What astonished me the most was the uncanny resemblance to the phrase “program with English.” While this post may not offer profound insights, I couldn’t resist sharing my sheer delight with this experience. It has been an enlightening and enjoyable endeavor, leaving me amazed at the power of language models like chatgpt.
